I had read that a Moorpark Apricot requires 600 hours of chilling and was thus unsuitable for growing in Orange County in Southern California. But I had also read that this oldest of all named varieties (been around for 800 years) was also the best tasting apricot in the world and the standard by which all others are measured, so I took a chance and planted one anyway. I was sadly disappointed the first two years, with the tree only producing about a dozen apricots, which although great tasting, were too few in number. This year I expected even worse considering the very mild winter we had. Much to my astonishment the Moorpark has I estimate over a hundred apricots on it. The Goldkist I just planted, although only a little twig, also has about ten apricots on it. I'm happy.
