Bumping back up to the first page. I am still hoping someone can help id this.

I've been trying to research the problem all weekend. Nothing I have seen seems to exactly match the appearance of these leaves.

I have posted the pictures in the "Tomato Pests & Diseases" forum, but have not received any responses there either. I know I should be patient, but if there is something I can do to improve the situation, I want to do it as soon as possible. Also, if it is some sort of disease, I want to remove these plants before it spreads to my others.

In case it is a nutrition deficiency, today I used a 15-30-15 liquid fertilizer mixed per the package directions as both a foliar spray and a bit to drink at the roots.

Can anyone help me?

How's the drainage on this? It almost looks like the roots are sitting in water.

Interesting you should say this, joe-il. Do you think the pics look like overwatering?

Today, I drilled a second drainage hole in the SWC on the opposite side of the first and some water did drain out. Apparently this SWC isn't level >:-(

We have had a lot of rain...since June 1st over 10-inches or so. They SWC has a plastic covering, but water does seep through the openings where the plants are. So with this plus the wicking of the SWC, there may be too much moisture for the plants' roots.

I can adjust for overwatering. I hope this is what it is and not disease.

you know I have been looking at your post for a couple days now, and thats the only thing I can think of. The curling looks like aphid damage, the yellowness looks like its been sitting in water. Toms dont like wet feet or compaction. It has been rainy here too, and I took a pitch fork and stuck in the ground about a foot away from the plants to get some air down to the roots as they were looking a little water stressed.

Gosh Joe, I hope you are right. Leave it to me to jump to conclusions.

I should be able to tell in a week or so as the weather has improved dramatically.

I have drained out excess water in the bottom of the SWC with the second hole. This should also allow more air in. Keep your fingers crossed for me :)

Rachel, did you ever figure out what the problem was? My tomato plant has leaves that look just like your picture.

Hi anywaste, I found your question and link back to this post in my email :)

I still believe the yellowing was from over watering. We had an extremely wet summer that year which was a challenge in itself. I ended up loosing all my tomatoes to Late Blight a few weeks after these pictures were taken, as did most of us along the East coast.

When I took apart my Self Watering Container in the fall to clean it out, I found that the shelf between the soil and the water reservoir had collapsed around the edges. This basically allowed the soil to sit in several inches of water.

I resolved the flaw in the Self Watering Container for the following year and used a lighter soil mixture, and had a bumper crop of tomatoes.

Thanks Rachel. The soil in my containers seems dry enough, but I will try to do some surgery to see if somehow the bottom is not draining properly.

I'm here in San Jose, CA and my leaves are doing the same thing. This is my first attempt at vegetable gardening so I'm excited to be able to harvest but am wondering if my tomatoes are going to make it.

I've pruned off all the yellow leaves and am going to improve drainage in the one container whose plants have it the worst and hope that helps.

There is one thing I'm not sure of: if the plant is wilting doesn't it need water? My tomatoes are in the late afternoon hot sun for at least 3-4 hours and are wilting consistently. This prompts me to water them; should I provide some type of filtered sun cover instead?
