Green bells are immature. They turn colors when ripe, the color depending on which variety you are growing. Most turn red. Others are just about rainbow colored, ranging from red to yellow to somewhat purple to almost black. It takes time and patience and a careful watch for insects and diseases to get to the colored stage. (I don't know of any that stay green through maturity but there may be some that do.) It looks like a pepper forming. However, my thought is that it is so late to start peppers, as they are heat-loving vegetables. I'm not familiar with temps in your zone at this time of year, but normally in our zone 10, Sunset Zone 23-24, pepper seeds would normally be planted in Apr, May and June. My ancho and poblano types are still trying to turn completely red. One plant that looks like a Christmas tree has multiple small 1 inch size hot peppers that are in yellow, orange and red - all doing nicely. Yes - then, I think your little plant is producing fruit, but it may take some time for it to grow to full size. Also, in warm climates, peppers can become perennial. Bejay

As a general rule, itÂs best to do a search to see if your question has been asked and answered before. Also, a little more info is helpful. For example: -type; -two months old but how tall; -how long before youÂre moving them outdoors; -size of pots theyÂre in; -growing medium in the pots and; -any feeding done. That being said, here are "my" general thoughts on your question. Buds lead to flowers and flowers lead to peppers. Allowing this development to continue when the plants are small means their energy is going to fruit development and not growth and this is fine if youÂre not interested in larger plants with higher yields. If you are going to pinch them off, I find it easier to wait until the flower starts to develop. There is less chance of damage pinching flowers than trying to pinch small buds off. I have recently read that if left go, peppers will flower and fruit again later in the season but IÂve never tried it. Personally, I pinch the flowers to encourage growth. The photo below illustrates what can happen if you do let them develop to fruit. This is a Dragons Claw that I started from seed January 5, 2009 to do some germination testing. It started to flower and I let it go because I was planning to start new ones closer to my setting out date. YouÂll note the plant is fairly small for 3.5 months old. From what I've read peppers aren't light sensative as far as trigering flowering etc. goes. Mine flower under Fluorescent light easily. I'm not growing most of mine in hydro. Most are going outside in pots. I usually add calcium to get my buds to pod out if they are dropping. I think Peppers are time triggered for budding. When they get old enough,under the right conditions they bud.Some faster than others. I've never figured out why 1 plant puts out pods easily while another under the same conditions drops buds. For Hydro it could be a PH thing. Peppers are supposed to like 6.5 (I think) so try going up or down for a week and see if anything changes. PH determins what nutes are available for your plants to use in general. Especially when it comes to Magnesium,Calcium and iron among others. The few plants I have in Hydro are around 6.5-slightly up or down from that at times...I'm not the best at checking as much as I should. I don't do much more than add water between fert. changes like I probably should. Maybe check out the hydro board. Post your findings here though,it might interest others.
