Container size for Mexican Sour Gherkins?
Comments (1)I saw a recent post about gherkins on the Vegetable forum. Those are pickling cukes? If they are viners, you could put both in the 16" but find some way to support/trellis them. For eggplants, usually the biggest of them can go into a 12" easily and yours may be smaller ones (my sister grows asian ones - I started some "Orient Charm" for her and just planted them out yesterday - and they don't get that big), so something that size (which is about a 5 gallon equivalent) should be okay. This is her first time veggie growing in raised beds (we just planted a bunch of things yesterday) so it should be interesting how that turns out and you'll probably enjoy yours too once they are ready!...See MoreWanted: Mouse melon

Comments (6)Hi, I have some Delice de la Table seeds (it's a true French cantaloupe...and it's REALLY good). I also have some Amish musk melon seeds, Hale's Gold Melon, and Sugar Baby Watermelon, if you're interested. If you're still interested in trading, I'm interested in the Pipian from Tuxapan Parisienne carrots Mexican Sour Gherkins. Thanks! Kelly...See MoreCanning Mexican Sour Gherkin
Comments (2)found this over on the heirloom forum ... "I have grown them 2 seasons and love them. They flesh is the same as a regular cuke but the skin is definately sour. I love the flavor combo, just chill for a few hours and eat like candy while watching the tube. I find they make excellent pickles as well. Verrrry Tart. Warthog" I waited and waited for someone to answer you, because I was intrigued... I was really surprised NOT to find a recipe. But I would imagine you could use a recipe for Cornichons or regular sweet gherkins. That's what Linda Z says she does with West Indian (bur) gherkins in Joy of Pickling. You might search the Heirloom Plants and Garden Forum ... there seems to have been a lot of discussion, but I didn't find a recipe. Kay...See More- 8 years ago
