Northeast plums and sour cherries?

I'm thinking of planting some native or hybrid plums, and also some pie cherries, in my upstate New York zone 5 garden.

I'm finding some very interesting information about them, like this about various plums species and hybrids between them:

I'm particularly interested in plums, because when I lived in Iowa, I enjoyed wild plums, some of which were really delicious, much more flavorful than commercial plums. In fact, some were so flavorful they were just about inedible, so I'm hoping hybrids would keep some of that intense wild flavor, without the harsh astringency.

At my old house in upstate New York, I had a Montmorency sour cherry tree, that reliably produced good fruit for processing, if not for eating fresh. I'm wondering if I should just get another old reliable Montmorency, or try one of these new varieties, like Romeo or Juliette, that sounds even tastier.

However, I'm not finding much information about how well any of these do in the northeast. Do any northeast gardeners here have any experience with wild or hybrid plums, or these new cherries?
