We planted an okrung mango tree last October that is a little less than 6 feet in height. I was curious to know how fast these trees grow provided that they are healthy. Back in October, the nursery where I bought the tree informed me that I should see a significant growth in a year. I wanted to see how accurate this is. Thank you in advance for any information.

Mangos aren't from a rainforest climate. They're monsoonal, which means a hot, humid wet season (summer) with higher temperatures day and night, and a hot, low humidity, dry season (winter) with higher day temperatures and a lot lower at night. Too much humidity can cause fungal diseases so in general it's good to water the base of the plant and keep water off the leaves, especially in the colder months. Looking at the photos the mango looks good. They grow and then stop a while. New growth comes with a flush of new leaves. So it's growing normally. When your winter comes there wouldn't be much growth but still take it out into the sun each day as much as you can. Temperatures below 15C you should have it inside/warmer. It will actually survive lower temperatures, but better if warmer. A seed grown mango can take around 8 years to produce fruit. But then you can't guarantee the fruit will be much good.

Alright! I looked at a Choko vine on line and YEP that sure looks like the leaf on the one I have. The leaves are just starting to get big enough to identify. I took a picture with the dirt pulled away from the seed so you all can see that it does look like a mango seed. ( Fruit had green and red skin, yellow flesh and tasted like one too???? ) OK new line of "googling" to do tomorrow. How to take care of this puppy! It's not ripe yet, although it has red/orange color which started 2 weeks ago. I think it could be ready to be picked by maybe mid to late August. I couldn't wait for that day to come since this is the first time I will taste the fruit. I do have another mango tree same age in container but no signs of flower, ever. I hate to kill it. Also, I have started to do a cleft graft 3 weeks ago, and now have a grafted tree from this fruiting tree. So I'm hoping the fruit is what I hope for.
