Thanks for the info in this thread. I would like to grow more raspberry cultivars, and found the info useful. Although I must disagree with some users about Fallgold. I have grown it a few years and it is by far my favorite variety. It tastes so different than any other raspberry. Amazing jam from it. Everybody whom has tried it loved them. I have not tried many cultivars, so I may change my mind, but if this is bad, I can't wait to try Anne and KiwiGold (I ordered both for this spring). Hard for me to believe they could possibly taste better than Fall Gold. Kiwi Gold sounds like it tastes like Fall Gold. Apricot flavor does describe the flavor. More apricot than raspberry flavor if you ask me, but does have a blend of both. What yellow cultivars are commercially sold? I tasted one, it was not marked as to what it was, and it was terrible. I ate 3 or 4 and threw them out. I guess it's possible the soil and conditions make a world of difference. Again thanks all. Has anybody tried Cascade Gold? A Summer bearing yellow! I would love to know any opinons...

Good point Jackie. Some clematis do produce what looks to some people as seedheads but all you have are the fluffed out ends of the unfertilized seed tails. You should see real seeds forming if the plant was fertilized. Also a fertilized seedhead may have large viable seeds and seeds that are smaller and generally not considered viable for propagation purposes. Don't know that much about CF since it is a type II and they are not my favorite class of clematis. Deadheading works to help extend the bloom period for some clematis but it doesn't work for all clematis. Experimentation with the clematis in your garden will help you find out which ones it works on and which it doesn't.

I'm guessing rodent, too. But, I have three dogs, two of which are small, and they all eat everything I grow. doesn't matter what it is, weeds, grass, flowers, aspen tree sprouts, iris foliage, strawberries, raspberries and especially anything fragrant. I sometimes find them rolling in foliage to get the scent on to their coats. I have a tiny (two feet high) wire fence around the beds but when I'm not looking, the two smaller dogs wind up trapped inside the fence and the larger dog gets her head stuck in it. This is only very rarely, but they get in and do as they please. The other day, I had finally hardened off the Veronica waterperry, the tiny Shasta daisy and the tiny Corepopsis nana. So, I left the sproutlets outside and in their cardboard box. I'd been keeping the pots in a box so I could bring them inside and outside easily. Somehow, one of the dogs jumped over the box and broke off a tiny Shasta!! Oh, poo! At least it wasn't the only sprout in the container, but still. And, no matter how cute they are, they are entirely capable of ripping out an entire small plant (they attacked my Icland poppy three times last year--I witnessed it!) and of breaking off young plants at the base, then leaving them there, suddenly disinterested. I hope you are able to put a stop to the plant damage! J.
