This is my third year growing it. Mine still has not bloomed either. I couldn't remember when they do but someone said they do in August. The vine itself is nice and I have mine planted with morning glory so even though the moonflower isn't blooming the mg is. Give it time, I know that's easier said than done 'cause I'm constantly checking mine:)

I have an old strain of Scarlett O'Hara that has been kept true to type from the early 60's...the flowers are about 3" across,a solid throat down to the very bottom of the tube...I performed a full vertical cut on the bloom which showed that the only white visible was from the pistil and filament hairs..the leaves were trilobed to cicada shaped any very slightly(!)variegated... I had it growing in a small flower pot late last season and actually held the flower up to the computer monitor to compare it to the color of most of the other SOH's and other flowers posted all over the web... I didn't take any photos as I was hoping for some bigger blooms and better lighting conditions,but I personally thought the flower color was the nicest I have seen so far... The color most closely matched the color of the Ipomoea quamoclit I have linked to in the PlantFiles with similar microshading that dissappeared if the flower was viewed from more than 12"...some people may consider this to be a red...but everyone has different red perception... First I am not an expert, just a home gardener. MG are just one of the vines I have been growing for some 35 years. Only to find out in containers I was doing it all wrong. Over in the container forum here, tapla helped many of us understand container culture. I would encourage you or anyone to read the three long posts. If you do what I did, you should have the same results as me. For my mg I filled eight large plastic light colored containers. 16" wide x 18" deep. 4 parts partialy composted pine bark "not large chunks" 1/2 inch and smaller. 1 part course perlite 1 part sphagnum peat moss. Osmocote plus controled release fertilzer 15-9-12 8-9 month. I used a five gallon drywall bucket to mix mine. 4 buckets of pine bark 1 of perlite 1 of sphagnum peat moss. one handfull of dolomite lime, 1/4 cup of the fertilizer. I planted the seeds directly in the pots. Dont overwater until the plants are 6" or so. Then the plants will go gangbusters. If they are in full sun you will have to water them every day. Thats the only drawback," and its not for the plants" Every 3 or 4 waterings let the water come rushing out the drainholes for a couple of minutes to flush any salt buildup from your water. The idea is this mix is very porus, and thus lets the roots go nuts. I tried a comercial potting soil"a good one" in the same containers. The morning glories did terrible. Because it was a peat based soil. There you have it. Do that and you will have huge morning glorys with hundreds of blooms. You have six months to locate the ingredients. Thank you, Ron! This MG has gone to town since the first few blooms. I really loved it and I'd like to have it again. I hope I can find seeds. We are finally going to freeze this week and there is no sign of any seed pods, so I won't get any from this one. This has been blooming night and day, so I was beginning to wonder if it really was some form of Moonflower. I'm sure it's the crazy "still in the 70's during the day in Oct" weather. Nov now and it has been quite a show. Not something I'm used to in MO. Here are pictures of it at 7:00 PM at night.
