Does this drought affect the number of insect pests?

The Southeast is suffering from the worst drought in 20 years with no relief in immediate sight. Thank goodness for the benefits of mulching.

I've noticed that I don't have NEARLY the number of cucumber beetles or stink bugs this year -- last year my plants were innundated with these pests!

Is there any evidence that insects don't thrive in dry conditions? What happens to them? Do they just not hatch from their underground quarters?
