Couple of things.

first...Don't expect much if any fruit the first year. If you plant this spring, you *may* get a couple of berries this year, depending on the plants, but you'll get a lot next year and then some the following year...after that you want to plant up the runners or get new plants.

Second...everbearing? I'm pretty sure they are spotty bearers (i think they have a good set early then a smaller flush in fall), i'd put june bearing types in too... I've never grown everbearing, i'm just going on what i've read.

third...mulch heavily or put down plastic. I used wood chips and seem to do ok, although i still had some berries rot. I had so many berries that we got sick of them and a ton of them went bad ... I ended up moving the bed and putting in less plants.

fourth...birds love strawberries. They'll start pecking them as soon as they blush. Get some bird netting if you think that will be a problem...it helps a lot.

fifth...kids love strawberries. They will eat them until their little hands are red and then they'll touch your clean clothes and leave red marks...prepare yourself!

I've grown june bearing for about 4 years now... I put in around 50 plants to begin with.

I've grown the everbearing strawberries and had a decent crop in the 1st year (from dormant plants, not seeds). The June bearers have more fruit, but for multiple harvests till fall,it works. You need decent soil mix (not just potting soil), steady water & lots of sun. What soil? Also, they are very particular about plant depth, root spead, etc. Mine were in various hanging containers & biggest problem is keeping moist. Half were June bearer, half Everbearer. This year I will do beds, all Everbearer, but I looked hard at Stark's planter..
I fertilized with Osmocote Slow Release pellets.
Also I have bee attracting herbs & flowers (it helps), & no pesticides.

If you use bare-root plants this Spring, remove any flower buds this year - the plants will put all their energy into root production. My dad grew them commercially when I was a kid, and it was my job to walk the rows of 1st year plants and pinch off the flower buds.

Tennessee Beauty is my favorite variety, the plants can be almost invasive with ideal conditions.
