Did I mess up?

Hello all. I may have messed up my vegetable garden. I thought I was fertilizing the other day, and only after spraying half the garden did I realize by that I was spraying Orthonex instead of fertilizer!! (That's what I get for leaving a chemical in an unmarked container!)

I'm not sure what to do now, several of my pepper plants, tomatoe plants, cucumber plants and bush bean plants got a dose of Orthonex instead of fertilizer. Do you think these plants will produce edible vegetables, or have I really made a big mistake?

I spray my birch trees with Orthonex. It is for ornamental use only.

For ornamental use only, does that mean it is does not effect the vegetables? Or are they poisoned?

Is your niche shelf marble? Could you have your tile guy trim the niche in marble instead of tile? Your niche is too deep for the bull nose. I had the same problem and this was my tile guy's solution. I purchased a box of 12x12 stock marble from Dal Tile, my tile guy cut it to fit and polished the edges. It looks a lot cleaner and no grout lines. Alternatively, instead of having a sliver of tile next to the bull nose, you could have your tile guy cut the bull nose so that each piece is the same width. Other than that, to my untrained eye, your shower looks great! eta: and if you keep the tile trim, line up the grout lines as Chispa recommends.

Did I mess up my roses w/ the bougainvillea leaves and wood (mulch)

Completely new to gardening. I had a bunch of bougainvillea leaves and wood that I been broken down for days/years. I added it around my rose as a mulch, and mixing it up into the soil because that area was hard clay. Should i not have done that? It's a small area and i can easily dig it away, but wanted to check before doing so. Also, what would be good for cracked clay soil? I'm thinking bark mulch, but the nursery recommends compost and gypsum. This is a bit too expensive for me right now.

Thank you all for the reassurances! Glad to know this is part of the doubt that occurs in a remodel!!! FYI: As far as Inknow, they have not prepped the shower waterproofing yet. This is what was there when they tore out the old. How is it usually done? Thanks for all of the feedback!

The company is Amish and they don’t answer the phone. Leave a message and we will call you back. Very frustrating to work with, but this is our third time purchasing from them and we have never had a problem before. We chose this baseboard because is what we are putting in the living area, except it is oak. When I called the company about a solution, they sent me a picture of baseboard intentionally cut to be thicker than the casing. I asked them about plinth blocks and they have them for $7 each. I need 34 blocks. Plus the carpenter’s labor. Of course since it we be painted, we can go with a local box store. Or, if we had each piece back cut, it additional carpenter’s labor again. I get it, it is the price I will pay now. So, my question, should I push the issue and would it be difficult for them to plane down the back?

JJ, Is there a number for the manufacturer on the bottle? If so, call them and ask, being sure to include how long your time until harvest will be. If there isn't a number, then maybe poison control can help you answer the question...or perhaps your county extension agent.

I know that Sevin dust says you can't harvest anything for between 7 and 21 days after an application. Perhaps there is a statement like that in the fine print on the Orthonex?

Orthonex is a systemic, meaning that the poison is designed to be accumulated in the plant's tissues. If I personally were in your shoes, I would definitely toss any plants that may have come into contact with it. Because I'm naturally paranoid about these kinds of things, I'd also remove all of the soil that might have also gotten sprayed-- but that's just me.

Either way, it is toxic and meant only for nice looking plants that you wouldn't put anywhere near your mouth. That's what ornamental means. Orthonex was never meant for edible plants.

Well so be it. I did kind of expect that answer, thanks so much.

This is the first garden I've had in well over 12 years. I know it's late in the season and it's hot, but are there any vegetable plants out there that I can start and grow this late in the season after I clean up this area?

Living in TX, I'll bet you could make a pretty good 'winter' garden. Contact your local Cooperative Extension Service (see link below) and talk to them about what's viable in your climate.

Orthenex isn't approved for edibles, but its ingredients acephate, triforine, and fenbutatin oxide are, as far as I can tell. If I were you, I would read up on these three chemicals and decide how long to wait before I felt safe eating anything from the garden.

If I were me, I wouldn't eat anything from a plant that was sprayed, or anything grown in the soil that was sprayed at least until next year. But then if I were me, I wouldn't use Orthenex. Not preaching, just saying.
