Poor, poor Biddy...she's so miserable!

Biddy is our White Leghorn and has begun moulting for the year, just in time for Hallowe'en. Last year she looked horrible too, but didn't seem to feel so bad.

Chickens really seem to feel embarrassed by their looks when they are moulting, and Biddy feels worse than the rest. She has always been the joker or brat of the bunch, but these days she huddles in the hen house and won't let any other chicken in. That's all right, the chickens are all 4 years old and are only laying occasionally, except for Biddy who laid an egg a day until a few days ago, when she suddenly stopped laying and began moulting.

My daughter who is in England, called and said that she read that when chickens are moulting they feel like we do when we have the flu, all shivery and achy.

She also said that she had heard of a special diet or some special food that will help them during this time. Have any of you heard of this?

I feel so sorry for her!

Lina.
