I'm finished up with trading scion wood for the year and getting my remaining scion wood from individuals who I have standing deals with and Bob Purvis purvisrc@msn.com he charges $4 for a 12-inch stick of scionwood and $2.50 for a 6-inch stick. There is a flat $8 charge for Priority Mail shipping and packaging If anyone else is at that point. I am getting plums, apricots, peaches, and pears from him. Most of the trees I did in 2011 were Jonathan trees with 3 others grafted on them - so 4 total. I sold those (on site in pots) for $50 each this fall. They sold faster than anything we've ever had! Dr. Joseph Stayman had his experimental orchard north of me over 100 years ago and I read that he did all of his with 16 per tree. He would keep track of his layout by the direction he forced each branch. So tree number seven first tier facing north would be ... not a bad way to do it. I currently keep an excel file laid out like a map. I'm starting to fill out my space so I may go to some "frankentrees" like that at some point.

Hi, I have no idea what a scion is . Can you elaborate . I have a number of old apple trees ( varieties unknown) but some of them are delicious . I also have 2 pear trees ..I canned the pears from these trees 2 years ago and they were heavenly. I am assuming and correct me if I am wrong but you are grafting these scions onto existing trees? or are you grafting onto rootstock ? I would love to know how to do this .
