The distinctions become blurred with plants like Legacy. SHB are hybrids themselves. Legacy, and South Moon and others are hardy in the colder zones too, so they are showing more of their NHB genes. I have NHB Liberty, Toro, and Chandler. I can't remember what Chandler looks like in fall? But the former two are awesome for colors, and they are good plants. I like the berries too! I have Car'a Choice, and well I have no idea what it is? These plants have been crossed and recrossed so many times.... CARA'S CHOICE is a progeny from the cross G-144 x US 165. G-144 originated from the cross 11-93 (a sibling of 'Bluecrop') x 'Darrow'. US 165 is a self of US 79, a hybrid of the diploid species Vaccinium darrowii 'Fla 4B' x US 56. US 56 originated from a cross of hexaploid V.constablaei x T-65. T-65 is a rabbiteye hybrid from the cross of 'Walker' x 11-180 (= 'Myers' x 'Black Giant'). The cross that produced CARA'S CHOICE was made by A.D. Draper at Beltsville, Maryland in approximately 1977. (note it was released in 2000). Hey, I'm not sure if the seeds you plant will grow true if you plant them but I can try and find you some in July but they will be wild Southern Highbush and I have to be lucky to find them with dried blueberries on the bush. I will check to see if my mom's ever set any blueberries this year and if so pick you a few. I will also visit the nearby nursery and ask if I can get any blueberries off his bushes. He sells many pints every summer. Have you heard of B & T World Seeds? Stac5455, just a suggestion, I would stay 500 ft. away from FHN as they have been questionable in their credibility of supplying the blueberry varieties they claim to be. Many of us have been burnt with FHN's blueberry varieties. Despite reading online comments about FHN, I have purchased blueberry plants from them yet the plants already show different growth habit characteristics than what they are supposed to look like. I have yet to wait for the real fruits to determine if they sold me what it was supposed to be. It is really painful way to find out it is a different variety than what you had purchased only after several years. Plus they have not responded my questions concerning the plants I received. Just Fruits and Exotics has been highly recommended by many blueberry experts. I have contacted JF&E recently, they are going to have many blueberry varieties available for the fall (most likely in October). You might want to contact them to see if they will have Spring High available in the fall.

"Overbearing for me is when the fruit quality declines." This too is hard for me to quantify. Fruit quality can decline for any number of reasons. If the decline was tied solely to lack of thinning/pruning, it would most likely be a matter of degrees, and would still bear acceptable fruit. I don't think I would get terrible or inedible berries based on how much or little I prune the bushes. Again, blueberry plants appear to be fairly forgiving if pH and other requirements are met. There is definitely enough wiggle room with blueberries to allow for any number of pruning possibilities. I assume this is why the recommendations are so vague and varied. I'm going to stick to my guns and shoot for plant health, vigor and structure. Quality fruit should simply be a manifestation of a healthy plant.
