Grown rooster introduced into a flock of pullets?
Comments (2)What breed is the roo and youngsters, and how old is the roo and what is his temperment? When I release youngsters into my established adult flock of hens and roos, I never do it until the youngsters are two months old, and I hold several 'Meet & Greets' beforehand with me standing right there to watch, supervise and intervene if any bullying goes on. If the roo in question is older and a gentle breed, you may have no problems. But if he is a young, ready to go kinda guy, he may be too aggressive in his mating duties and jump the gun on the girls a bit. Most roos recognize a baby when they see it, but you need to have the youngsters PAST the point of 'chick' and well into the point of 'started pullet' so they can defend themselves and have the sense to run away when needed. Make sure you know the roo in question well enough to know his temperment, but like fancifowl says--a roo can be a deterrent to the cats, but he isn't Superman. :) Velvet ~:>...See MoreCan a vet remove a rooster's crowing?
Comments (42)The question is very valid in light of many cities now have new laws allowing the raising of hens for eggs, but those eggs are less tasty and nutritious than fertilized eggs. I do not see the harm in having one quiet rooster live a nice long spoiled life impregnating hens. As soon as Houston gets this law passed I will have a few backyard hens of my own and wanted to know about roosters surgically being de-crowed so I can have fertile eggs to EAT or sell. Seeing that most roosters are killed anyway and many people kill the rooster babies just to avoid dealing with them... I don't see how in the world making a wonderful life in my backyard for a spoiled silenced rooster is a bad thing since it saves his life. Better than you eating him! Frankly I'd not need a rooster at all but I feel like I should be prepared in case there comes a time we are impoverished for one reason or another and our backyard "farm" supplements our food resources. Hens would eventually die off and stop laying. We need a perpetual stock that we can raise and barter with if it comes to that. Call it prepping and treat me with hatred for it, but my granny lived through the great depression and taught me how she managed to get her family through it. I honor her advice to me to "not put all my eggs in one basket". This post was edited by chelseacraft on Thu, Mar 28, 13 at 20:51...See MoreCan you introduce me to Rockhill Peach?
Comments (6)Hello, I have this one, received in a trade years ago. I will have to say ditto to Carol. It reblooms well, but to me the color is unremarkable (wet tissues is a pretty good descriptor) and the bloom form is odd/assymetrical which I personally dont like. I have kept it because of the amount of blooms it does produce and when I got it, it was harder to find, so I didn't want to discard a hard to find rose. I think there are a lot of others you could purchase that would provide you with nicer blooms. William J. Smith Marie Van Houtte Lady Hillingdon Mme. Comments (10)I have been in contact with Liebherr. It turns out that column led lighting was not one of the upgrades to this series. The upgrades include new hinges, control panel interface and an led dome light on the interior top. I have to say that the seller has been very professional when I raised what I thought was an issue to him. It turns out that it was my mistake to assume that the led lighting offered on this model is their new column lighting (which is too bad because its a significant improvement over the led dome light). I've only recently confirmed this with liebherr. Although I was mistaken, the seller and I were able to disagree in a very civil manner, with a completely open channel of communication. I did not want to reveal the seller until this was resolved--a good thing since it turns out it was all my mistake. The seller was markdown-madness. Regarding the other seller, 2good4sale, I have no experience with them. However, their liebherr listing that I saw is for an R1400, which is an older model refrigerator....See More- 16 years ago
