Somebody is pissy today!

how do you report spam? there is definatly 1 person in this post who needs reporting bad.

I've seen plenty of links to peoples blogs on all these boards. As for the OP, I don't know about planting in the heat, but you are supposed to be able to plant in the fall and keep them in ground through the winter. I don't get alot of hard freezes here, so it might be different for you.

Good luck w/ the carrots, I need to replant, I only had one of 72 come up! I'll use the boards next time to keep moisture in.

I just sowed seeds. I usually sow in September and March, but what the hey. My March carrots are done & gone so I fluffed the soil and am ready to go again. Buy one packet of carrot seeds and you've got a zillion seeds. Let's see what happens, eh.

I am sorry if I offended anyone, I saw other ppl put their blogs on their posts so I thought it was ok. I am sorry if I just want to share my garden with ppl! And see their gardens as well, isn't that part of what this site is all about! Sharing our gardens and gardening experiences!

If anyone truly knows the answer to my question, I would like to know! My questions are genuine!

It's fine to post a link to your blog as long as it is not for profit like advertising etc.

I am in S.W. Mi and I am going to try and plant some more carrots. I've have a shady spot and it stays cooler there. Why not try? what have you got to lose if you don't need the space for other crops. I don't think anyone took offense to your post.

Don't worry about your link to your blog. LOTS of people have them so people can browse. I don't know if you can actually make a 'signature line' here at GW; it seems as though several people do, but I don't know much about that. I'll try to figure it out. That might be a better option rather than putting it in the "Here's a link that might be useful" spot each time, which might confuse some people thinking it has something to do with the original post.

As to your question, I actually put a post sorta on-topic on the veggie forum just yesterday about whether it was really ever 'too late' to do certain things. The answers were logical, and helped me make decisions as to what to do with certain now empty spots in my own veggie patch. Here's a link to the thread.

Well, I don't see a signature line place in the profile information, but if you go to Member Pages at the bottom of any screen (in the green bar), then choose "Edit Your Personal Information, Page, and Preferences," there's a spot at the bottom to put in your personal URL. That'll show up on your member page whenever anyone clicks on your username, and it'll be available for people to browse. Then you won't have to link it every time.
But personally, I LIKE seeing people's blogs & webpages cuz it's always fun to see how other people garden. It's like a virtual garden tour around here.

I think putting a link to blog is a great idea. This forum is not easy when it comes to posting pictures. I have learned a lot from looking into others blogs. I think its a good way to enhance sharing ideas, inspiration etc.

Well, I am in zone 9 and I am planting carrots now. I plan to continue sowing them until the end of June, and if our July starts cool, I will plant then too (if I have any space left....LOL). I have never managed to sprout them in August though. September is not too good either, so I start again in October. So yes, you are reading this right, carrots here in zone 9 sown from October to June. I do have them shaded by other plants in the warmer months and this helps a lot. If you do not and you get a heat wave, it will affect their taste and texture. We do have unusually cool springs, but I try to extend my season for carrots as much as possible, since that first time when I tasted my first garden grown carrot and I just could not believe my tastebuds.

Many of us have fun reading other people's garden blogs, I do not think this is considered spam here at all. Lots of luck with your carrots! (to summarize my long answer, yes I think you can sow them now)

shawnann, I'm getting ready to plant some carrots this week. If the rain stops long enough to get them in the ground, I will, if not they will go in containers. If I were you, I'd go ahead and plant them.

i can grow, you are fairly new to Gardenweb and you are welcome. You do need to do a little more reading. A lot of people add links to their blogs and as long as they aren't selling anything, I don't think it is spam. Personally, I enjoy some of the blogs. The ones I don't like, I don't read. Very simple.

Typically, cool season stuff can be planted for both spring and fall. I assume your books mentioned summer planting if they had a mature date for the fall.

Maybe the other poster got up on the wrong side of the bed or just found out that he/she really couldn't grow after all?

Thank you for all your help and comments. You are right I am fairly new to garden web and this is only my second year gardening so I get very excited and want to share and see what others are doing. I don't really know alot of ppl who are into gardening so I find this is a good place to "share" my garden that I am so proud of. And I am always looking for new ideas and information and this board and ppl's blogs really help!

I think that I will plant some carrot seeds and see what happens...as soon as the rain stops! Hopefully today if not tomorrow!

Thanks for addressing this, shawnann (and for sharing your blog too-teehee). I also read carrots can be grown year round, but mine never grew roots because it was too warm, so I thought that only applied to milder zones...

Yes momma_s, I have carrots now but they are in the shade of other plants. I have some in the middle of a bed surrounded by pole beans so they get lots of shade, and I have another carrot bed on the shady part of some tall tomatoes. So far so good.
