It's my nest! No - IT's mine!

Last summer, we modified a 3.5 by 6.5' wooden crate for our geese. We cut out one long side and used it to make door panels with 3x3' wide cage wire screens for light and lots of fresh air. When the geese were young, we kept them inside at night. As they grew older (and developed their own inclinations) we began letting them sleep under the stars - they still have a fenced paddock. When they began to lay, the geese made a nice nest inside the crate...that's A nest, not plural, which the females seemed to share politely for a while.

Sooooo, how do you tell when one of your Tolouse is broody? How about when a 15+lb Chinese sits on her head while pecking at her rump and STILL the broody occupant refuses to move!

To assist our broody one, and relieve her torment, we just shut her in with food and water at one end. She has the entire crate to stretch her legs if she chooses, and so far she hasn't been seen pacing the floor. When we checked her food and changed her water, it appears that she doesn't seem to be eating or drinking much. Hisses pretty good though! We gave our chinese a seperate nest box since she doesn't sit anyway.

Given the circumstances, do the provisions seem adequate for all?

Tx
