Snap beans from the grocery will almost never be mature enough to have viable seed. And even in the best case scenario (which would be worst case for the grocer, having over-ripe beans) you won't get enough plants to make it worthwhile. What you will mostly get is failure. You are far better off just purchasing bean seed which will germinate reliably, rather than purchasing produce. The good news is that if the immature bean seed does grow, you will get plants that are true-to-type with with what you originally purchased. While hybrids are quite common in many garden vegetables, there are no hybrid beans... and likely never will be. It is too impractical to produce hybrid bean seed, both because of the flower structure, and because for each flower pollinated, you get 10 seeds at best. Contrast that with a tomato or pepper, where a single hand-pollinated flower can yield hundreds of seeds. While some beans may start out as crosses during the breeding process, the cross will be stabilized into an open pollinated variety before it is released commercially.

Hello Donna! I hope that you are well and full of your usual good cheer. Your âÂÂExotic Starâ x âÂÂApple Blossomâ pod looks great - well-formed and healthy! Although, I have never been able to produce viable seeds from Apple Blossom via self-pollination or cross-pollination with AB as the prospective seed parent, I have found that Apple BlossomâÂÂs pollen is definitely viable. The fact that both of your Exotic Star bulbs didnâÂÂt readily accept any of your pollination attempts except for Apple Blossom, with so many flowers with which to experiment, has me scratching my head. However, this has been an odd year for me in terms of producing seedpods; let alone viable seed. I have had failure upon failure. Happily, I finally have several pods that look promising, but they arenâÂÂt as far along as yours is, so I canâÂÂt start celebrating. I have, with few exceptions, only attempted to cross Exotic Star with cybisters and diploid Hippeastrum species. These crosses have had a very high success rate with Exotic Star as either the seed or pollen parent. There was a post awhile back offering to trade fresh Lima x Apple Blossom seeds, so it appears that you are not alone as Lima is definitely a pod-fertile diploid (at least it has performed as such for me). I don't know if you are looking for just a regular dwarf cavendish or a super dwarf cavendish. I also have a dwarf cavendish however I do not have any pups off of that one at present - you'd have to wait until summer of next year to see if it will give pups if you are only interested in "dwarf cavendish". The mother plant seems to be less than 6 inches tall right now and the pup is a little smaller. I just brought it inside due to freezing weather outside - we just got a cold front this afternoon. I am interested in 2 things you have : stevia plant (well rooted and strong as this plant seems to be delicate) saponaria seeds let me know via email if you are interested in trading.
