New project of raised bed...no experience

User

We are hoping for a small raised bed at the front end of our driveway. It is on uneven ground so the bed would need to be about 6 inches or so in the back and as much as 25 inches in the front.

We found some creek stone which matches our existing property very well. But we have no experience building a stacked wall. The bed would contain a mixture of topsoil, compost and coarse sand for roses, perennials, with dimensions of about 8x15 feet.

Would this bed require a footer? If so, what do you recommend? Also will the pressure of the soil, especially when wet, move the stones around?

Any information would really be appreciated since we are complete novices. We would prefer the stacked stone to those stackable blocks at Lowe's.
