Grill Propane Tanks, how much left
Comments (15)It shouldn't matter who fills it....only how much was left in it when it was taken in to be topped off. We looked at the tare weight of the tank, (empty weight), and added 20 lbs. to whatever that figure was. The tank was set on a scale while being filled, and the sliding balance weight on the scale was set to whatever the tare weight + 20 lbs. figure was. (Usually 37 or 38 pounds.) Didn't matter who was filling the tank....once the beam on the scale balanced, that was followed immediately by the OPD valve closing on its own and not allowing any more propane into the tank. Keep in mind that that's the *short* way to do it. What's actually supposed to be done, is the WC rating, (water capacity), is looked at. There's usually a chart next to the filling station that shows different sized tanks on it. "20 pound" tanks are usually stamped with a WC of 47.1 pounds. The chart then shows what the propane capacity in pounds is, and that figure is combined with the tare weight in order to come up with a "weight when full" figure. ;-)...See MoreCan I hook up a 5-Gallon Propane Canister to a Commercial Range?
Comments (6)Yes, you sure can run a stove off of a 5 gallon tank of propane. Many natural gas stoves can be converted to propane gas simply by changing (sometimes adjusting) the individual burner jets. Keep in mind that in some situations you must use a "LOW pressure" pressure regulator for use on the LPG bottle. The outlet pressure from the 5 gallon bottle to the stove burner is important to obtain the correct operation of the stove. However, I would suggest you consider using a "HIGH pressure" burner like the ones in the link below. There are several models that work well for cooking steaks. The Cadillac burner pictured below is one type of burner that I have and often use. It has lots of BTUs which I use for stir fry and cooking in large dutch ovens or stock pots. A Wok will fit too into that burner. You will get close to professional tasting stir fry foods because of the high heat capabilities. Suggest you get the stand too to put this stove at about knee height. I also have the Super Cooker Propane stove. This portable stove is real good for blackening steaks, deep frying, and boiling seafood in large stock pots. Notice the large size of this burner......great for heating large skillets evenly. The pressure regulator that comes with this stove works well. However, I use a better (IMO) adjustable High pressure regulator with my stove to get an even higher BTU output when I need it yet still maintain a barely simmer flame when I need that too. This stove works great and one that I highly recommend. This is coming from a guy who does a lot of cooking outdoors often in huge batches....... Comments (2)I have some thoughts for you. First, 100 gallons is awfully small. I have a 250 gal, reside in (warm) South Texas and mine needs to be refilled an avg of twice a year. Second, is this location going to be readily accessible to the rear of a propane truck? You can bury a tank, but I kinda like to see what's going on. You can plant bushes of the right size to shield it. Another idea I had, but never got around to building, was just erecting a little wall like seven feet wide or so. Mine was going to be of the same Hardie siding, paint color, and white trim as the house so it would "fit in". A little landscaping around it would be nice. It could be constructed with two PT posts in concrete with a frame, siding, and trim. Good luck....See MorePainting this propane tank??? ;)
Comments (29)I am beginning to think really subtle camo - using the Dijon mustard tone for the top, and for the "face" that faces the road. No need to repaint everything! (Just about everyone on FB wants me to go Yellow Submarine -- and while that has a charm, it might just be a bit too cliched...) Adding little bits of creative interest in the camo parts at the bottom of either side of the tank is something I'm mentally toying with... AND, playing with the bushes, shrubbery and trellis will work there. For those who wonder, the yard does not yet have much in the way of whimsy -- right now the house is in the final stages of construction, so a lot of potential in several directions. I have several attractive rocks (New England!) the builders unearthed to set around while the equipment to move these is available. There is also an old abandoned rusty wagon wheel that I want to put somewhere. I can't move it myself, and it IS sitting in a patch of poison ivy. There will eventually be a chicken house and a chicken tractor. So, decor will also be "farm"....See Morequeerbychoice
