Shredded paper as mulch in containers and on ground?

Hi!

I hope I am not asking a question that has been answered a million times, but my (admittedly brief) search did not yield the specific answers I was hoping for.

I will have a large supply of paper and access to a shredder after finals next week, and would love to be able to turn them into my own supply of free mulch. Are there problems classically associated with using shredded paper as mulch, either on the ground or in containers?

I will be growing tomatoes, peppers, squash, eggplant, and pole beans if it makes a difference.

Thank you in advance!
