Pill bugs EVERYWHERE

These pestilential pill bugs, aka rolliepollys aka wood lice are about to drive me nuts. Although my bug book claims they rarely bother plants, preferring decaying veggie matter, my bugs haven't read that book. They climb under my cantelopes or their leaves and turn them into decaying matter. They're on my bush beans and zuccini, my chard and beets--basically anytying w/ leaves close to the ground. How do I get rid of them?

Oh, and I have an out of control open compost heap that is absolutely teaming w/ them. Any suggestions there would be welcome too!
