asclepias/milkweed seed exchange

I am new to GardenWeb. It looks like a great site!

I live in NW NY and have recently established a Monarch Waystation, and am trying my hand at growing whatever milkweed plants I can find, especially those native to this area of the country.

I have incarnata, syriaca, and tuberosa well established now and have seeds I can share from those three.

I am especially interested in finding seed from A. amplexicaulis/Clasping Milkweed, A. exalta/Poke milkweed, A. quadrifolia/ Four-leaf milkweed, A. Variegata/ Red-ringed or White milkweed, and A. viridiflora/Green or Green Antelope milkweed; as these are all on a list I found of milkweed that occurs naturally in NY state.

I am also a butterfly raiser. I went to your trade list page but there are no lists there. Did you know that? I would love to see what you have and visa versa.

Welcome to Garden Web.

I thought you might like to know there is no email link on your member page, thus no way to email you.

To set up your email, just go to the bottom on any page here, and click on Member Pages
Then click on Edit your Personal Information, Page, and Preferences
You will then probably be asked to login in again.
Then check the box Allow other users to send you email via forms at our site.

That will place a link on your member page.

While there editing, you may want to fill in your seeds you have to trade, as well as the seeds you would like to receive.

Like Kathy said above, there is nothing on your lists.

Yes,they would be native. I did have the plant but it was killed during the winter,and I gave away my last seeds past winter. So now I have to start again. I am funny with MilkweedFarm,not all the seeds I get from him sprout? Think he sells dead seeds too?

The thing is..it's not rare (at least in the woods here), but apparently difficult to cultivate in captivity. I had great germination the year Mark sent me some (3 or 4 years ago), however, not a one of them overwintered. But A. perennis, which seems to be easy to grow, did the same behavior..of course drainage in wet springs here can be bad for many plants, so that may be my problem.

I have a few seeds of Asclepias variegata and recently ordered Asclepias verticillata and exaltata. Would you be interested in a trade - I have most on your list but would like A. asperula, speciosa, and purpurascens. I usually grow plants native to northeast US, and want to grow all the Asclepias species native here, but would be curious to try a few others native to other regions.
