I was too late for the perennial milk weed, but I learned there is an annual milk weed. There were so some many caterpillars, and I wind up with 9 crystallines under a lip on my porch by the plants. 8 survived. I was very excited!

Where can I buy these and also can they be grown in a container? Are there other milkweeds for our low desert? Thanks

We have five of these rush milkweeds, which add a natural element to our desert backyard here in the Phoenix area. They attract many beautiful butterflies and grow easily in our unamended desert soil with just a bit of irrigation. Be careful! Tarantula hawks are also attracted to them. These freaked me out when I first saw them, and their sting is supposedly excruciatingly painful, but they are pretty non-aggressive. Give them some space, and they will do the same for you.
