I am using compact fluorescent at 18 watts to 23 watts. with a temperature range from bright white to daylight. on the citrus floor and warm white to bright white on the ground floor. My choice on bulbs is made by sales. All the pieces are precut and take about 2 hours to assemble and 1 hour to disassemble. It is used for the citrus trees and starting other seed trees to give them a 4 month jump on spring. The ground level is for vegetable starts in spring and growing greens in winter holding pepper plants from 1st frost till the some 50 peppers ripen. The 2 plant you see in the bottom are pepper plants ripening their peppers. At this time I am bout to start harvesting greens. march i'll start my pepper and egg plants for smummer

I planted a lemon tree from a seed. I went to a green house and purchased the correct potting soil for citrus and food. My plants are 2 years old and not produced so much as a flower as yet:( They are in like 6 inch pots, but planted close to the top and are now about 3 feet high. I have cut them back, severely, the first year, and this spring I have cut them back again. I have seen some post mentioning doing something with the roots, cutting the older ones off? I water them when they dry out and they get afternoon sun in the winter and are out with my hot pepper plants in the green house in the late spring and than are totally outside in the sun from July till September. I'm at a loss. What can I do to force flowering and production of a few lemons?

I just got more Meyer lemons at Costco. I've made Meyer Lemon Marmalade, and a batch with M. lemons and clementines, a quart of plain preserved lemons, and one with some spices added (peppercorns, coriander, allspice if I remember right). I use preserved lemons way more than I thought I would. Tomorrow is lemon curd (and homemade English muffins if I get really motivated) and maybe a Shaker lemon pie.

Everything I can think of has been mentioned and usually takes time or isn't tropical. I have several avocado trees I started from pits. I gave some to neighbors. I have have pineapple plants I started last year, but they are slow and I think the one from two years ago that I had planted in my flower bed died during those two nights we had in the 20's. It would have been better for me to have kept it potted. I buy the the little green onions from the grocery store and use the green tops and stick the bulb part in the dirt and regrow tops. I currently have a pot of onions and leeks. You might be able to do the same with romaine lettuce and celery. I haven't actually tried that yet. I've seen some mention on Pinterest. My basil died during the freeze. It's a very prolific plant that reseeds itself and ends up everywhere. I had so much that a few years back, I picked some and put it in a vase and added a few flowers. Danged if that stuff didn't reroot itself. I have had cherry tomato plants for the last four years. The little tomatoes fall off and eventually conditions are right and the next year I have volunteers. I also find them in other flower beds because the birds eat the tomatoes with seeds and poop wherever. I haven't had as much luck with propagating rosemary. I'd like to get some growing so I can get rid of the plant I have growing in the wrong place. What about potatoes or sweet potatoes? Growing up we rooted sweet potatoes by sticking toothpicks in the bottom and then letting the green shoots grow. Then you root the shoots by picking them off and putting in water. Regular potatoes start putting out eyes this time of year. Cut apart chunks with eyes and let them harden off. Plant after that. Look up how to grow a banana tree from an overripe banana. I just did and they say you can get a sprout in a week or so. I may have to try that myself just to see if I can do it.
