What would YOU do with these awful things?

Please check out the pictures at the link below. Although I've cleaned up around these old tubs, my better half refuses to get rid of them, probably because of the labor involved. I don't what kind of drainage they've got, but the tiny roses planted in them withered up for lack of water and died before I ever moved in.

What would YOU do?

What would you plant in them? Would you paint the outsides? What color? (Our house is tan stone with burgundy trim.)

They're in protected areas between the carport and the house. One is in mostly shade except for late sun, and the other gets full sun from about 10-2. This town has an average winter low temp of about 31F and average summer high of about 98F.

I'd thought about some type of tiny white mounding flowers like candytuft or alyssum that would look like a bubble-bath and then stick a big yellow rubber duck in there, just for spite. Maybe then the better half would part with the tubs after all! ;-)
