Increasing size of ugly concrete patio

I have a builder standard, square concrete patio that I want to make bigger and also make more rounded so it fits into a landscape. I'm wondering what materials and methods could be used to increase the size and make it flow more naturally. I've considered just pouring more concrete around it with a more naturalized (curved) border but I'm not confident I like that idea. I've also considered leaving the concrete and transitioning to pavers, or even putting new pavers on top of the conctrete (I have a few inches til I have problems with the door).

I'm willing to consider anything but I will be doing the work myself and budget is a concern. I have no problems with mixing my own concrete, laying foundations, building deck platforms, etc... but it has to be something I can do without bulldozer's or other expensive equipment.

What do you guys think? Have any of you done something like this before. I really don't want to rip it up or do anything too expensive.
