I'd like to thank the designer

One of my maintnenace clients has a path with Myrica planted 3' off both sides. I get paid well to keep it trimmed back. I think I see what the designer was going for- there's Summersweet Clethra along the path as well. So fragrance was the intent. And it does smell good when I trim the bayberry. So far I've been able to hold off pruning the Clethra, but right after it blooms, it's gonna get whacked back as well.

There is also some arching, variegated plant I have yet to ID, possibly a spirea, that is planted in a narrow point of the pool surround- a Sky Pencil holly would almost be too wide for that spot. Another bi-weekly trimming job. I suspect it may bloom, but I have to trim it so often, it never gets a chance!

Do you think this designer was trying to grow the green industry by providing jobs for others?

Maintenance gardening may not be glamorous, but it is a good learning experience for a novice designer!
