instructions for using PotMaker( wood thing & newspaper)
Comments (3)Sure it is really easy. Cut strips from your newspaper about 3/4 inch wider than the spool. Let the extra hang over the end and fold into the center. Push cap onto spool and with pressure applied turn the cap a few times. Be sure your news paper is at least 3 thicknesses on the spool or it won't be strong enough. The paper pots will need to support each other so must fill the flat. It is satisfying to find something to do with the newspaper that gives it some value. Comments (7)Okayâ¦I think I have made some decisions! I will go look in daylight tooâ¦though decline is happening rapidly. I am going for Minuteman vs. Patriot, as the cupping on mine is noticeable, and descriptions on the Hostas Database keep mentioning that. And Francee vs Frosted Jade. Frosted Jade is said to be more upright (Krossa descendent), and my plant is really low relative to its width : and FJ a bit of a blue look whereas mine is a very solid green with no blue tones. Since it came from Home Depot, I think Francee is more likely too. Francee is said to be a fast grower, and this will eat the bed and the neighboring astilbes and ferns in no time. I am considering moving it out of there next year, though I donâÂÂt have good place for such a low plant to go to....See MoreAnyone try air layering for hard to root ones?
Comments (5)Thanks, Connie! I looked them up. I think the only thing different about them and just wrapping some peat moss around a stem is the water reservoir. Since they're kind of expensive I think I'll try what I have on hand first. It LOOKS like you could make your own rooter pot with a small plastic drinking cup with a lid. But I guess there is a raised lip around the lower hole that keeps water in. I am not sure yet how fast a traditional air layer would dry out, but assume it works at least part of the time. I asked Paul Zimmerman why these particular roses are hard to root and he said it's a mystery why some are hard to root..a plant can be very vigorous and still balk at rooting. I see other people have trouble rooting teas whereas they are easy here....See Moreanyone replace one of those flourescent light boxes??
Comments (19)I have replace them in three different houses! Because I hate them... and they are hideous! Like the others have said, they leave suprisingly small holes in the ceiling! I really only had to use touch up paint where I had to patch the ceiling holes, the rest was painted to match already, BONUS! As far as the light "box"(or whatever its really called) already being in place, once yes, two times no. The first time there was just a wire hanging out of the ceiling, I called an electrician who just used toggle bolts to secure the little silver-hanging-bar-bracket-thing directly into the drywall of the ceiling and wired it all together. The next time that happened I did it myself and chose to spend the $150.00 I had paid him on something pretty for me! My most useful tip is just to have help getting the light box itself down from the ceiling, they are crazy heavy and very awkward! Good luck! It's a great and easy project! Here are some pics of one of the ones I did. Before After...See Moresocks
