overwintering geraniums

tetrazzini

I'm determined to save my potted and window boxed geraniums to replant again next year. Years ago I tried taking them indoors but they started to get little bugs, so I'm not crazy about that idea. I've heard that I can shake off the soil and hang them upside down in the basement.

Has anyone done this? What's the ideal temperature/humidity for this to succeed? Does it really work? Do I need to prune them before or after their hibernation period. or do anything else to encourage them?

Are there other methods of saving the plants for next year?

Thank you!
