Asparagus Answers, Please

I recently bought 3 kinds of asparagus: Mary Washington, Jersey Knight and Jersey Giant. I understand that the Jersey Knight and Jersey Giant are all male varieties, and I assume Mary Washington is both male and female. So what I want to know is, if I bought 10 roots and 9 of them are females, did I get ripped off, or can I trust that the supplier identified the male plants and culled them before selling them to me? Does it even matter? Are the female Mary Washington plants any less vigorous than the males?
