can turface pro league be used
Comments (5)Thanks for the empathy Al! You have no idea what an ordeal I went through today, only to be given the wrong stuff. I drove 35 miles each way to pick up the Turface. I had called the garden center on Friday and paid for the turface MVP over the telephone and they agreed to have 5 bags delivered from their warehouse to their garden center so that it would be ready for me when I arrived at the garden center to pick it up. When I arrived at the garden center, no one knew what I was talking about. They said they would bring me 5 bags from their warehouse. An hour later, they arrived with 5 bags of the Pro-league. They told me it was exactly the same as the MVP, just it has been sifted to remove any dust. That turned out to be a crock. So I wasted about 4 hours, spent $65 and ended up with useless material. I am really frustrated. I am debating whether to go back next sunday to replace the turface. Its a hell of a shlep....See MoreMy experience with turface all sport
Comments (6)I use the allsport turface for my cacti and succulents, both in the mixture & as a decorative topper. I use a kitchen bowl sifter to sift out the small granules. I used the large ones for inside the soil and the small ones as a dressing to top the soil, which also prevents soil bugs....See MoreTurface MVP
Comments (15)Hi all Going to try making gritty mix for my June repotting. I've read a few hours worth of threads and still have some questions. I live in Manhattan, no car. I found chick I grit grower size and the repti-bark at Petco across the street. 1.But No local turface so far and the 50lb bag of turface I find online is about $45- $50. Is this what I should expect to pay?Anyone know another online source? I followed Al's link and while the places I found are not that far from my zip, (less than 20 miles) it's not accessible without a car. 2. On screening the turface: I've seen mention of insect screen and regular kitchen strainers. I want to buy a regular kitchen strainer as it will be easiest to get compared with insect screen and "hardware cloth" - I don't even know what that is! - but don't want to get a strainer that's too fine. they seem come in different sizes and many say "fine mesh".Any guidance? 3. I think I read that repti bark is prescreened so I don't have to screen it.True? What about the chick-i grit? Screen it or not? 4. Do I HAVE to screen? I live in a small apartment on the 25th floor. Screening enough for a 10 foot FLF, a pony tail palm in a 6 inch pot, a bamboo palm in a 10inch pot, a ficus b in a 10 inch pot, three 6 inch zee zees, and about 4 other medium sized plants - I fear a royal mess and maybe a budget issue. 5.if it turns out to be too messy or expensive, will it help to just mix one of the ingredients with regular potting soil and if it'll at least help a bit, which ingredient and at what ratio? Or some other solution that doesn't involve screening? thanks for your help and patience, I'm sure these questions have been addressed before but I haven't come across them. marie...See MoreTURFACE-MVP...GROWING MEDIUM
Comments (16)Yep! I have and I still am---I don't repot my succulents often. I also still have haworthia leaves rooting in turface. My dorstenias are in it too. Just remember not to use soft plastic pots. And if you use clay or terracota pots, add more holes. If it dries too fast, then and only then do I use topdressing (for this I use chicken grit because I like how it looks). Lastly, definitely sift. And feed regularly since that stuff is inert and inorganic. Pagan...See MoreLoveplants2 8b Virginia Beach, Virginia
