I bought the triple super phosphate at the Sunnnnnnnniland store in Sanford, not far from Flea World. I bought a 40 lb. bag a couple years ago. It may be difficult to find now like gatormom said. As for the 8-10-10, I prefer the Sunnnnnnniland or Lessssssco brands. It is best to stick with brand names because it is not uncommon for generic and store brand fertilizers to burn the plants. I frequently listen to Tampa's am 970 WFLA "Florida Gardening" radio program on Sundays mornings on my computer. The gardening guys say that 6-6-6 is one step away from kitty litter and I firmly believe that too. That's why I feel that the 8-10-10 is the better way to go. It works for me as long as I put it down when I'm supposed to. That is my most used formula. The other 2 formulas that I use are Sunnnnnnniland acid/iron 16-4-8 on lawns and on any grassy type plants (ex. bamboo). This acid/iron will green up a lawn like nothing else--really. My other preferred fertilizer is 2-10-10, also from Sunnnnnnniland. That one is great for low nitrogen plants such as tomatoes. I frequently do use the powdered bloom booster fertilizers Tony mentioned on quick growing (and fruiting) plants such as papayas. Tony, can you keep us posted on the Trisodium phosphate? If the government keeps taking phosphate out of the fertilizers we may have to get inventive. I need my fruits and flowers to keep blooming. Chrisitne

It was really thin, Gary. Not even the thickness of a pencil. I used a side veneer graft. Oh well, I would of like to see what kind of fruits your seedling produce also. How large is the tree? Sometimes a good trick to use to get seedling specimens to mature is to graft a mature budwood onto it. In many plants this will trigger the entire plant to bloom and fruit. Both my seedling longans bloomed at about 4 years old, give or take a year. Both times, it coincided with a failed grafting attempt I tried on the seedling.

June: I planted out many longan (and other fruit tree seeds) when I was new to this hobby many years ago. Most of the seedlings died, or got pot bound eventually and turned into unintentional bonsai specimens. However, every once in a while, one tree caught my eye and seemed to be calling to be planted out in the yard. One such tree for me was a Kohala Longan seedling that I stuck in the ground approxiamtely 15 years ago. Here's what the tree looked like this year when it fruited for the first time. On 7/2/10 I didn't take a picture of the hanging clusters of fruit in early August, but suffice it to say that there were 10 pound clusters of fruit hanging heavily on the end of virtually each and every branch. The fruits were nicely flavored and very sweet. There was not a great flesh to seed ratio, however, and I am not sure if that was becuase of the characteristic of this particular tree or whether the heavy clustering limited the flesh production. I will try next year to thin out the clusters by hand to see if i can get the fruit to size up more and give a better ratio of flesh to seed. In any case, having it fruit for the first time was very exhilarating. BTW, this tree was totally blown over and uprooted by Hurricane Wilma in 2005 and so there was some major limb damage that has kept the tree somewhat manageable in size. For perspective, that is a 5 foot tall chain link fence between the tree. Good luck with your young seedlings. Harry
