Mint with issues . . . Basil not so much - photo

Does anyone have a thought as to what has attacked my mint. It is not circular or curvy like leaf miner damage. It almost looks like environmental damage. However, it is not - new leaves look the same. Is it a nutrient deficiency?

Added to the mystery, I did see a bit of damage on my basil about a month ago but once the leaves were removed, I have not seen it on the basil plant again. I removed the damaged leaves from the mint but it has come back stronger and has spread to all areas of the plant. The mint is in a self-watering container - plastic pot. My basil is in my felt-tainer self watering and it is fine. I am using Al's mix in both. I do have a small bit of compost on top of the soil in the basil container as part of an experiment with my fabric pots. Hope this is enough info. LC
