Should I plant mint?

As I have been researching companion planting, I keep seeing mint as a beneficial to all sorts of plants - tomatoes, peppers, melons, beans, just about everything. It is also a natural deterrent to ants, which I have prolifically in my yard. I have avoided planting mint in my garden area because it is so invasive. I have seen mint travel 15 feet underground and pop up. But I'm starting to wonder if it would be any worse than the weeds that are already out there. I think my biggest concern is it taking over my raised beds. So, should I plant it at all, plant it just in my walkways, or plant it all over? What do you think?
