Retaining Wall Question

We recently had a ladscape designer come to our home to give an estimate on waterproofing our foundation and providing a new lawn (we desperately need both jobs done).

When he saw the 4 foot slope in front of our home he suggested a retaining wall to give the lawn "definition". It seems like a really great idea and we will probably go with it. I know a stone wall would be best, but I really don't have the budget for it. The next option was an interlocking stone wall, which he did not really like the look of. I kind of agree with him about the look of those.

Then he showed me some pics of tie walls. I was impressed with the natural look of a tie wall. They could be stained and it looks like it would be a nice looking option. It was also the least expensive option. I was wondering if anyone could tell me about tie walls. Do they attract bugs? Do they hold up well over time? Any info you could give me to help make the decision would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Mike
