Help with shade tolerant plants

Hi everyone, name is Mario. Live in St.Catharines Ontario Canada, a suburb of the Greater Niagara Area including Niagara Falls. I have recently moved into a new home with North facing frontage. I would like to create a new garden design , but I am inexperienced as to what types of plants (both trees, shrubs, and small flowering perrenials) would be most appriopriate for an area that receives little direct sunlight during the day. I have done the hosta thing, and am happy with the look in isolated places, but what can I do to really landscape when the sun's lack of light will deter a lot of plants from really establising themselves. HELP!!!
