Bacopa and calibrochoa (million bells) look good spilling over. Vinca vines can get really long but they are gorgeous nonetheless. I had one in a window box last year. It got so big I took it out and planted in the ground. I had some more hanging out of a pot with another plant. It took over the other plant and I couldn't tell you what the name of the other plants.

Your combos sound really good though. I especially love your idea about the supertunias, scabeola and geraniums. Post pics when you can. I'll post pics of mine soon.

It looks like you are arranging tallest in back. How much sun will the plants get? 4-5 hours in the AM? Do you want the dusty miller for the color contrast? Have you thought about including some trailing Coleus or sweet potato vine? How about Persian shield or Perilla. Something to add color in part shade? I just bought 2 containers of Dracaena marginata ÂTricolor (three plants about 24" tall in each container for $8 per container) I'll separate them and use them fr a ht accent in containers. I also overwintered some Cordyline 'Red Stars' that I'll use for ht. Diascia will do well on an east exposure. Carpet petunias will also bloom in a steady stream of blossoms & won't fizzle out like the super-t's do for some people. I was well pleased with cabana (Sutera cordata) in semi shade containers last year. There is just soo much good material out there to work with. I know you'll do very well in selecting your plants. There are probably a lot of others with better "eyes" than I, for what looks good in containers.

Everything you mentioned will work together. I always keep an eye out for different stuff to fill containers. You can see that I use perennials that aren't hardy here. Some things are considered houseplants, but they work in containers.

Well I bought my plants. 2 huge hanging pots (each pot containing 3 plants each) of red ivy geraniums. Also bought 4 swedish ivies. The place I bought them from suggested: an ivy on each end of each of the 2 the boxes, separate the geraniums and plant each of the 3 in a zig zag fashion in each box. They said that if there was room in the back of the box, I could either stick in blue salvia or dusty miller. I always thought that if you crowded alot of plants in your box would look fuller. But is it better to plant less plants so they have more room to grow? The boxes by the way get 1/2 day sun.

June - if you're not planning to grow your windowbox plants year-round, year after year... Ie., if you only plan to have them out there for about 4 - 5 months before frost gets them, then who cares how many are stuffed in there? They are going to be discarded at the end of the season anyway. ;-) The placement recommendation sounds about right as I would do the same and maybe even have a few more ivys (1 in the middle for each box, along with the one in each corner of each box).

I know I've seen many posts from people who bemoan not having "lush" windowboxes and that's because they were afraid to crowd the plants a bit. Of course excessive crowding can be detrimental as watering would be more difficult. But usually the plants reach their full size for the season by about August and a bit of crowding should be fine, where the stress often encourages better flowering. In your case, it appears the geraniums (pelargoniums) are the center of flowering attention, so be prepared if it gets too hot because they may take a flowering pause for awhile (although the half sun position will help keep them cooler).

I have batface cuphea in my window boxes, but in this heat I am having trouble keeping nectar in the flowers, anyone have any ideas? Thanks
