WANTED: Maypop/purple passion flower

Hello!

I'm hoping to be able to trade for a maypop, aka purple passion flower. You know, the only passaflora that's hardy in my zone. ;)

If trading for indoor plants is a possibility, I have a number of succulents that would be easy for me to root and send. I also have a couple of African Violets (one white and light pink/lavender, one deep purple/blue) that need to have some of their offshoots moved to a new pot. I have other indoor plants that I have no doubt would be easy enough to propagate.

If you'd prefer outdoor plants, I know for sure that I have (mostly) thornless raspberry plants (because raspberry plants _do_ that) and a ridiculous number of common orange daylilies. I also almost certainly have some spiderwort (fushia or purple), and could easily dig up a bit of oak-leaf hydrangea. I can't remember what else is outside that can be divided, as things are only _just_ starting to come up.

You'll probably get plenty of offers, but I probably have some maypop I could send you. As you probably know, it puts runners out all over the place but I might be able to find you a runner with some good roots on it.

Crisann, I have Passiflora incarnata ALBA, which is the native white passion vine - email me if you're interested in a volunteer seedling - I think there are still some out in the flower bed. Hi nivolle! Boy do I know what you mean - is there such a thing as too many passionvines:D You say you have the maypop, do you mean the one native to our region, the P incarnata? This is the one I have all over and I love it:) I'm extremely excited to grow Constance Elliot; would you be interested in exchanging cuttings? I have P caerulea or P 'Amethyst'. Hi Wispfox. I took a look around in the yard this weekend and don't see any passion vine coming up yet. Have you tried any of the other regional trade forums that are closer to where you live?

I have Passionflower... although I have no idea what color. The package my father in law got was per a trade and it only says passion flower... Id LOVE thornless rasp.

Chances are that it's not hardy in 6, if it doesn't say. Let me know?

I would agree that it might be too early for P. incarnata in many places. More importantly, you should be aware that not all strains of P. incarnata are equally hardy. It grows naturally from Florida to Southern Ohio, if I remember correctly, and the hardiness of a strain reflects its origin. The simplest solution is to get a sucker from someone who has been growing it in zone 6.

It's not a plant I grow. I would recommend checking on the Passiflora forum for a zone 6 source. The forum is a bit sleepy lately, but it's still probably worth trying. I would recommend posting in the general discussion section, as the question of P. incarnata hardiness is an important one that should be raised periodically.

Maypop is not up yet here, & I'm zone 6, or rather I think theychanged it to zone 7. It comes up quite late here, I'm thinking at least another month, and we've had a cold spring so far.
