LtlWilli, I can get blackberry cuttings from some blackberry brambles we harvested from last year if you'd be interested. They do have thorns though.

I think I need to defer to Dennis or others who actually have VdB. I believe I have Negronne which apparently, has minor differences. In any case my Negronne actually seems to grow taller shoots than my other figs and the fruit is a bit smaller typically than White Marseilles, Celest or Hardy Chicago in my yard. That is so far... They are all in their 3rd growing year in the ground and were frozen down to the ground last winter. They need to have a few more years for me to really be sure.

Hello, Well, I do have my PN (2000 ,Park Seeds) and VdB (2002, EL) next to each other and buried in pots). First of of all, I would like to say that one should wait 4+ years before passing an judgment on these (THEM) figs . This year, both of mine performed as initially advertised; small roundish blackish skin (with little black dots), a good red insides (eye appealing - rather than longish /pale insides) and a very good tasting figs. Both Pn/VdB fruit seemed same to me this year (but unlike LSU.P which was in my tio my mix - confusion). Both (PN/VdB) are ~4' tall plants, but I do not keep any records my pruning. I tend to agree that PN is somewhat more DWARFish than VdB. I am amazed how my tiny PN (that I gave to James) grew so fast and how Herman came to so fast a good conclusion. I recently posted a question about the BLACK, NERO, NIGRA NEGROONE, bla, bla, bla, etc ., misused fig name. Gene, answered mesomewhere , but I cannot recall where...? George (NJ).

VdB type figs and RdB are very nice dark berry tastes very similar. The deciding factors I see are; - RdB is unifera (1 crop only), - the Vdb is bifarous (2 crops) and produce abundant brebas. - RdB is cold tolerant have mine in ground Zone 6. grows and produces well. - VdB are not cold tolerant and need to be grown in containers here in zone 6. I have small dormant RdB and VdB trees that can be easily shipped. $29 each and also fig cuttings for $7 each.
