Violette de Bordeaux in Charlotte, NC?

I have Negronne (aka Violette de Bordeaux at Edible Landscaping). That's where I got mine. I live in zone 8a in Newport, NC. It does fine here and is superior in taste to the dozen or so varieties I've had. Productive too.

Coralb, I live in Charlotte too. I have several VbD fig trees so yes, they do well here.

Hello Linda! Thank you for the reply. Here is what I am experimenting with at the moment: Stella - slow grower Arteano - fast grower! Peter's Honey - current dropping all leave, repotted today LSU Gold - arrived bare root from TN, doing fine LSU Purple - arrived bare root from TN, doing fine Green Ischia - tiny baby about 2 wks old. Charlotte - got cutting last year local, probably BT Verdal Longue - 4 new cuttings Celeste - 4 new cuttings Marseilles VS Black - 5 new cuttings Sal's Fig - 5 new cutting Brooklyn White - 3 new cuttings Snowden - lost my label and think it died Black Spanish - slow grower Violette de Bourdeaux - doing well, no figs for 2 years Nero - lost my label and think it died DIredo - lost my label and think it died Bournabat - lost my label and think it died Black Jack - one of my best tasting figs Italian Everbearing - Ty Ty that I planned in the ground White Kadota - Ty Ty that I planned in the ground Brunswick - produces very large tasteless figs Dark Portuguese - only 3 days old Ronde de Bordeaux - only 3 days old Brown Turkey - got several of these Mission - got 3 planted in ground grounding slow So, these are my science project. Some have little figs on them and doing fine. Some are mad at me and got a little stressed from the 4 straight days of rain last week. I had 4 Black Maderia. I put 2 in the freezer today and I got one showing some root in a bag. Seems like all the nurseries around here carry nothing but Brown Turkey. Hoping to find fig cuttings

Hello all, I left my home in MD 5 years ago and potted up cuttings of my figs; Sal's (Gene's), Violette de Bordeaux, Hardy Chicago, and Conadria. Due to multiple job changes we moved to VA, SC, and finally NC and it has taken until now for me to buy another home and I finally can plant the figs. About a month ago there were buds everywhere, but a late frost here in the mountains of WNC seems to have killed most of them. Conadria is OK, one of two Hardy Chicago's is alive, but I'm not sure about Sal's and Violette looks pretty dead. :( I am crushed. A friend here gave me a brown turkey which looks good, and I did order the LSU fig today out of desperation. But I am hoping to find some new cuttings so that I can get new plants going ASAP. I have no figs to trade. :( What I do have is thornless blackberries, strawberries, and in the future I can trade spineless prickly pear (cold hardy), Jewel black raspberry, and possibly Conadria. Alternatively if anyone is willing to provide fig cuttings for the cost of shipping, I'd be eternally grateful. Can anyone help? Thanks, Ann in 7A

Terowan, since you have several varieties in addition to VdB can you address the question about relative size of VdB compared to other varieties? Does a VdB tree really stay a bit smaller than other figs? Thanks.

I think I need to defer to Dennis or others who actually have VdB. I believe I have Negronne which apparently, has minor differences. In any case my Negronne actually seems to grow taller shoots than my other figs and the fruit is a bit smaller typically than White Marseilles, Celest or Hardy Chicago in my yard. That is so far... They are all in their 3rd growing year in the ground and were frozen down to the ground last winter. They need to have a few more years for me to really be sure.
