Trailing plant that makes it through the winter?

Is there such a thing? I can overwinter in my garage...

I have 3 rectangular window-box type planters lining my front porch. I overwintered tulips in my garage and they are blooming nicely now--moved outside into the planters. Now I'm thinking about Summer. I'd like to do double impatiens (the spot gets sun from 8-1 and is then shaded the rest of the day.) I need a trailer though....

I'm planning on planting lamium (white nancy) elsewhere, and would like to repeat it in the window boxes.... Could I keep the lamium in the liners and just move it into the garage where it would hopefully then act like a perennial?

Or, would english ivy be a better choice? Not thrilled with the look of ivy, but if it will survive--I'm fine with it.

Is there ANY trailing plant that could even survive the winter---outside??
