my own fish emulsion story

I have my own fish emulsion story- fortunately, not quite as gory or smelly as the story noted in a prior posting, but still pretty bad.

I have been keeping a bunch of plants in my basement over the winter under a growlight. I had heard that a good way to increase humidity was to place each pot on a pan containing a layer of gravel and a small amount of water. So I did this.

Next, I watered my plants with some fish fertilizer mixed in. What I did not realize was that the fishy water would drain out of the bottom of the pots and into the gravel pans, where under the heat of the grow light, the fishy gravelly watery solution has grown all types of horrible stuff and smells really really bad and has attracted a ton of flies even though the window has a screen on it. Fortunately, no maggots!

Definitely the last time I will be using fish emulsion indoors. Note, that when the label says deodorized- they mean smells incredibly bad, instead of smells incredibly incredibly bad.
