Marigold's-Seed saving?

brendapa

My Marigolds are beautiful this year. They are still in full bloom, we've not had a frost yet. I have very few dead blossoms, so no seed pods to collect.

I've read the pod needs to be dried and swelled prior to harvesting and collecting to dry. I have about 25 plants in a group. Do they need to be pollinated to make the seed pods swell? Can I do this manually like an African Violet?

When the frost hit's will the blossoms turn to mush? Will the seed pods then form and dry on the plant? Will the marigolds be as beautiful next year from seed?
