Can amaryllis survive outdoors year round in Zone 9?

Hi everyone--I wanted to find out if anyone has had any experience with planting amaryllis outdoors in zone 9 (I'm in deep south Texas). I'd like to purchase some bulbs now & instead of having them indoors I'd plant them directly into my garden late November/mid December. Could I leave them undisturbed in the garden over the summer/fall seasons or is it recommended I dig them up & store them? It's gets awfully hot down here during those months so I would really appreciate any advice you could give me.

Thanks in advance :)
