Have you ever considered the value per square foot of each crop?

I've been thinking a lot this winter about the value per square foot of each crop because 1.) I don't have much land and 2.) I'm planning to sell some vegetables at my local farmers market for the first time this spring. Since my growing area is small (a couple thousand square feet rather than acres) I've been thinking about how to maximize my profit from the land that I have available.

I think this issue is interesting from two different perspectives. One is from the perspective of a market gardener, mentioned above. But I think it's also of interest to those who are just growing food for themselves but have limited space (or time) to invest in gardening. In this case it might make sense to consider growing the more valuable crops.

I found an interesting blog posting recently that addresses this subject. The most profitable plants in your vegetable garden What do you think of this chart? Is it fairly accurate? Other thoughts on this topic?
