I'm a fool for The Lily Garden, but if you just want a mass of colors, I'd suggest John Scheepers/Van Engelen. I was going to suggest you wait until their end-of-season sale, but then I noticed your location and climate zone, and you probably can't wait that long. The reason for waiting for the sale is that the lilies are about the last thing to sell out, so you can get great deals then. I should know better by now. I may live in a Zone 7, but it's a short-season Zone 7, and I've ended up crawling around in snow and mud to plant my bargains.

Some people swear by B&T Lilies (?), too. The Lily Garden and B&T both carry simply superb quality lilies, but they aren't inexpensive. Not that I mind paying extra--I've been known to want to lick the pages of my Lily Garden catalog because the offerings are SO gorgeous!

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, the Lily Garden is out of my price range and they also don't have what I'm looking for which is a collection.

Anyone out there know when would be the best time to plant lily bulbs for my zone?

I'm thinking you may have missed it for this year, but White Flower Farm always has lots of types of lily mixes. I can't remember if they also ship in the spring, as some nurseries only ship in fall (which I understand is a better time to get them planted). I have ordered some Easter lily hybrids from them before, and they bloomed beautifully.

Can the sale lily bulbs be stored until the spring? Maybe planted up and stuck in an unheated garage or on the porch? Or maybe just kept in the back of the fridge?

If I'm not certain about the placement be it lighting conditions, colors or heights, I always pot them up, see what they are and plant in a soil right after the bloom.
Unheated garage is fine, just sparingly water them from time to time on a warm days. Most of the lilies are hardy to z4, so overwintering in pots in z5/6 is no problem for as long as you not let pots to be an ice cubes or completely dry.
When planting in a pot make sure you leave enough soil under the bulb to grow roots. 2G pot is good for 3 lily, 3G is for 5 bulbs. For 12-18cm bulbs 1G is too small and shallow, IMO, though it could be used for the 10cm and smaller bulbs. One per pot.

I ordered the Strawberries & Cream lily mixture from White Flower Farms this fall. They don't always get the best ratings for perennials (on Garden Watchdog), but I've been pretty pleased with their bulbs, and this mixture was a pretty good price. Now, whether or not they're the colors they're supposed to be remains to be seen...Anyway, they do have the Strawberris and Cream mix for spring shipping if (like me!) you're running out of time to get everything in the ground--

I think I recall that WFF bought up some bulb company a few years back. That could be why they are a good source for bulbs.

Ego, thanks for the help! I know these bulb sales are coming up in November-December, but I just can't wait that long to plant in the ground. I also can't justify spending more money than I have to, when I know that in 2 weeks, the exact same bulbs are going to be so much cheaper (and I can get more of them!).

Buggycrazy has the best bulbs around, and the prices are very very good. I've purchased from all the top lily bulb company including The Lily Garden, B&D lilys, Scheepers, etc and Buggycrazys bulbs are 2-3 x bigger and better prices too.
