I have moved hyacinths at all different times, except perhaps when they are in bloom. They seem to take a lot of abuse. My yard is full of them now, after I received a few bulbs from a good hearted, crotchety neighbor of 95+ years, who came over to my yard one day, 20 years ago and thrust a few bulbs at me, saying, "Here, plant these." I keep dividing them and now have dozens of clumps to complement all my spring bulbs, primroses, and lunaria (silver dollar plant.) You might want to just get yours right in to the ground now. You won't have to worry about storage conditions, or forgetting about them. They will send up some growth toward fall. Good luck to you and your new rose bush. Happy Spring. Hepatica

This is perfectly normal for grape hyacinth/muscari - which are perfectly hardy down to Zone 3. I don't have any in containers, but mine in the ground will often sprout leaves in the fall; they don't set buds at this time, however. They survive my Zone 4 Minnesota winters and always bloom at the normal time in the spring. I wouldn't recommend bringing them in - forcing bulbs expends all their energy rendering them virtually worthless for any future use.

absolutely not ... your 6 .. will be 18 .. next year... etc .. if you planted them in a nice 8 inch pattern.. in 5 to 10 years.. you will have a 2 foot wide circle ... and thats it ... in three years.. you could dig them up.. harvest 25 mature bulbs.. and plant them in other places ... they have one of the most unique aromas in flower.. when you can get enough to really smell them ... i would not worry about these ... i am not aware of any BULB.. that can move around the yard.. as you suggest ... except with human intervention ... check out my river pix, below ... the neighbor dug up her 2 foot bunch.. and asked if i wanted them ... and i got creative ... planting 10 bulbs in each spot .... rabbits and the growth of the conifers kinda ruined it .. but it is still there ... and not many bulbs thrive in pure sand ... they make me very happy.. i think it is a childhood memory thing ... ken
