Gladiolus Question

I planted these for the first time this year.

They were cheap on clearance when I bought them so I bought alot and planted alot of them maybe too close together. The results were alot of leaves (stalks) but not a whole lot of flowers.

I would say about 95% sprouted but only about 25% flowered and they seemed to flower at different times even though they were planted at the same time.

I just recently had a white one bloom. I'm wondering what I did wrong and if I can do anything to make them bloom better next year.

Details.

I planted about 60 bulbs about 10" apart from each other

I did not fertalize them

Watered them semi regurally

They are in full Sun

Thats about all I can think of. Any suggestions for better results are appreciated.
