What's the deal with rudbeckia hirta? Difference?

Hi I planted what I thought was rudbeckia fulgida goldstrum last year but it popped up and has bright yellow flowers with a brown/burgundy center. It looks like rudbeckia hirta autumn colors. There's no rudbeckia fulgida that looks like this right? Is the rudbeckia hirta a annual or perennial? Some sources say half hardy perennial or biennial? What does that mean? Does it mean it dies after flowering like a biennial? Or does it mean it dies in some climates? I.E. if it survived my winter (last year) would it survive again and become a perennial? What's the hardniess on the hirtas? Confused and curios. :)
